Artist Statement
My artworks constitute a career-long investigation into the ontology of photography. Freely moving between photography and sculpture, my projects are often based on historic narratives, memories from my childhood, or familiar subject matter from around my home or studio. My projects constitute an examination of photographic indexicality, the archive, and the frame, and they speak in multiple ways to the rapidly evolving definition of photography as they invite viewers’ imaginative participation in our current post-internet collective image environment.

“Clothing items often contain crucial evidence. Moreover, examination of clothing from a crime may elicit its ‘story’; much like examining a crime scene helps to reconstruct the crime. In some cases, the garment itself may be considered a crime scene.” 1

Liliana Bloch Gallery is a contemporary art gallery founded in 2013. The gallery represents artists working regionally, nationally, and internationally in all media.

The Gallery provides a unique and personalized approach to building outstanding contemporary collections, emphasizing artwork that addresses contemporary issues with strong historical ties. We work to create a dialogue between institutional and private curators, collectors, galleries, educational venues, and the general public.

In 2016, the Gallery launched its public art program, URBANO, which cements the gallery’s commitment to educate and promote the understanding of contemporary art in public spaces. URBANO includes curatorial initiatives that reach beyond the traditional bounds of a gallery space and bring art into the context of the city. We believe that public art enhances the lives of our community and nurtures the freedom of expression through mutual understanding between artists and the public.

The Gallery takes as a given that contemporary art both serves as a catalyst for critical thinking and holds the promise to promote peace, understanding, and appreciation for knowledge and excellence.
