Taubert ContemporaryMarkus Linnenbrink – Huseyin Sami – Markus Weggenmann
1961 born in Dortmund, Germany lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, USA
After finalising his studies 1988 at the Academy of Fine Arts, Berlin, Germany, Markus Linnenbrink started his artistic career by showing in several galleries and institutions in Germany, since 2000 also in an international context. His work is part of important institutional and private collections like ERGO Düsseldorf, Germany, Justiz Vollzugsanstalt Düsseldorf, Germany (wall painting), Ministry of Culture, The Hague, The Netherlands, Borusan Contemporary Art Collection, Istanbul, Turkey, San José Museum of Art, San José, California, USA or Collection Mark Giambrone, Dallas, Texas, USA. Liberation of the colour from the object represented, developing its own materiality and colourful luminosity is Linnenbrink’s story, referring to Jean Dubuffet, Jean Fautrier and Emil Schumacher in Europe in the mid-20th century, followed in the US by Jackson Pollock and Morris Louis at the same time. Linnenbrink elicits from the colour as matter and material a dazzling variety of individual colours, which he can achieve through different admixtures – covering panels, walls or even floors, be it outside or inside. The by far largest drip painting is on view in the lobby of the Rockefeller Center, New York, USA.
Markus Linnenbrink’s newest works were recently presented at the exhibition IWANNABEWHEREYOUARE until October 31, 2020 at Taubert Contemporary.
1979 born in London, UK lives and works in Sydney, Australia
Huseyin Sami finished the first part of his education in Sydney, Australia as Bachelor of Visual Arts (Hons First Class) Sydney University 2000, followed by Master of Visual Arts Sydney University (Sydney Collage of Arts) in 2003. He works with the physicality of paint itself. His medium, subject and process, is an ever-evolving thesis on the possibilities and limitations of household paint. Through incessant experimentation, Sami has developed an ingenious repertoire of techniques and activities predicated on dealing with the ontology of painting. Besides many grants and residencies he has shown in several gallery solo and group exhibitions, among them notable institutions such as the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, Australia and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, Australia. Sami’s work is part of many public collections in Australia and New Zealand as well as private collections in Australia, Germany, UK, Japan and the USA.
Taubert Contemporary presents Huseyin Sami’s solo exhibition „matter and colour“ 7 Nov 2020 – 30 Jan 2021.
1953 born in Singen/Hohentwiel, Germany lives and works in Zurich and Lumnezia, Switzerland
Painter Markus Weggenmann started with solo shows in 1987 and has been shown in group shows since 1992. First part of shows in Switzerland and Germany, his work expanded more international since 2000. Weggenmann’s works are part of important institutional and private collections such as Kunsthaus Zurich, Haus Konstruktiv, Zurich, Kunstmuseum Bonn, Kunstmuseum Singen, Lenbachhaus, Munich, Collection Credit Suisse, Collection Hyundai, South Korea or AKZO Nobel Art Foundation, The Netherlands. Having started with conceptual stripe paintings, followed by high gloss paintings on aluminum, Weggenmann developed his work with side steps to tapestry and sculpture up to a back-to-the-roots distemper on canvas painting. Always investigating various aspects of the intensity and scope of colour, Weggenmann’s work is highly charged reactive substance that wraps the viewer in a kind of atmospheric spatial grasp.
Markus Weggenmann’s work is presented in a comprehensive solo exhibition at Museum Liner Appenzell in Switzerland until April 11, 2021.
